Power Thought - It's January 1st, Every Day There is a tape that a friend of mine gave me a long time ago. It’s called the Winner's Edge. Great tape, and lots of good stuff on it. I am reminded of one thing in particular as the new year comes.... In it, Ray Pelletier asks what if every day were January 1st? Other than a perpetual hangover for a lot of folks you may be tempted to say 'So what?' What do people do every year on Jan. 1? They set new goals or resolutions. They mentally wipe the slate clean. They start over on their promises and intentions. They take this arbitrary date on a calendar that really is only significant because we GIVE it such and they FORGET THE PAST so they can CREATE THE FUTURE! If you treated every day like it was a fresh start from where you are now, what would happen? Would you have less stress? Less headaches? More energy? Would you see the possibilities before you because you were at a beginning? Don't we all generally look forward to the potential of what lay ahead at this time of year? We have Spring coming.... Easter, (won't mention April 15), the wonder of summer... It’s all about what can happen it seems. We tend to bury the past in favor of the future. As we move through the year, we drag the baggage of the missed opportunities, the little failures, the big problems, the small and the inconsequential with us only to let go of them at January 1st. Why not pretend EVERY day is January 1st in that respect? Let's drop all that crap now. Let's now wait another week. And most importantly, let's not wake up in June or next November still dragging 2002's stuff with us. Let's all leave it behind every day.... 2.) Recommended Resource - Automobile University Frac first mentioned this term to me... He heard it from Zig Ziglar. As much as I love the stuff Zig does, I hadn’t heard this term before. It’s all about using the tools at hand to learn and grow. Most of us drive an hour or more a day every day. Many of us drive that much in a single shot! What do you do with that time? Do you listen to the radio? Howard Stern? NPR? Rush Limbaugh? Do you think? Do you listen to anything on the radio or tape player? I try to have some kind of tape program in the car with me at all times that I am alone. Sometimes I will be in the car, starting it and realize that I don't have any tapes with me... So, I go back inside and get some. Many, if not all of you, have heard of this analogy... Listening to tapes in the car is like taking a semester of college. It's true... as long as you are listening to things that make you grow or think. We are always recommending tapes and other training programs to people. Those are great to listen to. Also great is an occasional biography, novel or other piece. Like Jim Rohn says, you have to have a broad range to read and listen to. Don't do the trashy stuff, but don't just do the motivational stuff either. Take that time to listen in the car... It's my favorite place to listen to tapes. 3.) The Single Biggest Mistake 99.9% of us Make When Starting MLM After you found the “fountain of youth” and started your network marketing program, your brain is in high gear. In fact, you can’t even sleep at night. You are thinking of all the lives that your new opportunity can touch and change. You are especially happy about presenting your MLM program to your good friend “Sally”. Why “Sally”, because of all the people you know, “Sally” needs it the most. She will now be able to pay her bills, buy Christmas presents, and most of all get back on her feet again, because she deserves it. After all, when you hit it big time, you especially want “Sally” to be right there with you! So, the first chance you get you go running to “Sally’s” apartment, and shout, “Sally, I’ve done it. I’m so excited. I’ve found a way for us to hit it big time. I mean millionaires”. After you share your enthusiasm and program details of how “Sally” can benefit from network marketing. “Sally” says, “no”. After you pick yourself up from the floor, your mind is spinning for an answer. Your mind can’t conclude anything that’s reasonable. You keep thinking, how “Sally” out of all people, needs this business. After all, if she had been the one that found this opportunity you would of joined in a heart beat (and thanked your lucky stars). Again, your mind thinks she of all people needs this opportunity. This scenario is what I call the Mother Teresa effect. You want something more than they do. You care more about there future than they do (Mother Teresa Effect). However, anytime you care more about someone’s future than they do. They will never come into your organization. If they do sign up (probably from begging) you will find that you will also have to beg them to work. This of course is a mistake that we all make when we get started. It’s never a mistake to talk to people about your opportunity. The mistake is wasting your time on people that are not interested (no matter who that might be). Your time is best spent looking for people that are looking for you. To your success, Tom
