Pass It Along
1.) Power Thought - The Key is You You are the key to your success... To steal a phrase from my good friend Doug Firebaugh, 'Did you get that?' You are the key to success in ANYTHING you do. Too often people will let external factors determine their success. In other words they will let other people and situations that they have no control or ability to affect decide their success. Success is a state of mind. Success is an attitude. Success is way of looking at life. If I set a goal to sell $1 million dollars worth of product this month and I do not achieve that goal, am I a failure? Seriously, am I a failure? Am I a success? Depends on how you decide to view it. If I decide that I was stupid for setting that goal or for trying to achieve it, then I am a failure. If I look at where I could have done better or at missed opportunities or at new ways to take action toward that goal based on what I learned, then I am wildly successful. Goals and plans ALMOST NEVER work out the way we originally intended. We almost always achieve them later, sooner, bigger or smaller. What does that tell us? It tells us that we can't always accurately predict what will happen. And if that is the case, we should not judge our success or failure on whether or not we hit arbitrary deadlines. Instead, seek to learn something from each situation, whether you achieve what you originally intended or not. Seek to build on your experiences by not committing the same errors over and over. Seek to remember that YOU determine success or failure by what you take from any given situation. If you can take something positive from a situation, fantastic! If you cannot, then ask what can you do to not repeat it. Then take the positive from that. Success is always going to be decided by you. You will choose to call something successful or a failure based on your beliefs. Believe that you can make ANY situation successful, and it will be... The key is in you to do that, no one else! 2.) Recommended Resource - New Rich Dad Book! Robert Kiyosaki has written another book called 'Retire Young Retire Rich'. Just picked this up and this really looks like a winner! I love all the Rich Dad books, but they don't always resonate with the masses I think. What Kiyosaki has done here is put together a book that tells you how to leverage your mind, plan and actions. It's not a 'Do A, B, C and become rich' book. In my opinion many of those are worthless, because everyone is different. Not all plans and ideas are usable by everyone. Kiyosaki put together something that will get you moving in a direction. It's about leverage. Leveraging things you have that can create wealth. Everyone has the potential to be wealthy, but few are. I believe that is because most don't know they can or are too programmed to believe that they could if only X would happen (like a fair shake at work, etc.). X is almost always some external factor beyond your control too. You will learn that you can do it and what kinds of things will help you get there. The path is still up to you, but it always has been and always will be. That is the power of freedom and opportunity. Get the book here: http://www.myaffiliateprogram.com/u/connect/b.asp?id=1911 That will take you to the Rich Dad site where you can find a lot of GREAT materials! 3.) Article - You Have GOT to Start Being Choosy... Did you know that at one time, it was a GOOD thing to be discriminating? It meant that you were choosy about what you did, where you did it and whom you did it with. It meant that you knew what you desired and wouldn't settle for less. Now, you can't be discriminating. It's a bad word. Well, I think that is a bunch of BS myself. I believe you HAVE to be discriminating in the ways I just described. But, since so many people will be turned off by the word, let's start with 'choosy.' It means pretty much the same thing, so let's talk about being choosy in all aspects of life. If you are married or dating someone (or even looking) did you hook up with the first person that came along? Did you look around for what interested YOU? Arranged marriages aside (and yes I do know some people in them) I am sure you will say yes to that. You were choosy. You are choosy generally about a lot of things in life. Think about it. Is the car you drive the first one you saw on the lot? Probably not. Is the house you live in the first and only one you looked at? Again probably not. What about where you shop? Your doctor? See a pattern? We almost always are choosy when we are looking for something we desire. We have been taught to be that way for the most part. So why do most people NOT become more choosy about the people they are in business with? I am speaking mainly about those of us in Network Marketing. Maybe it's because too many people in this industry are not really interested in presenting the business properly or they make wild claims about how they will build your business for you. Many people don't know enough to be choosy when they first get in. By being choosy I am saying you should not only pick a company carefully, but you should also pick your sponsor carefully. If you are presented an awesome opportunity and would love to join, what do you do? Most will hold their nose and join or never join at all. I say you should seek out a sponsor that you can work with, whose vision and desires either match yours or at least are compatible. Personalities should be compatible. Though you aren't legally bound as partners, you ARE morally and ethically bound in my opinion... A sponsor is RESPONSIBLE for helping you get started and trained. How good a job will they do if you cannot stand them personally? Ahhhhhh! Now you see the problem? There is nothing wrong with seeking someone different in my opinion. Just because someone presents an opportunity to you doesn't mean you are obligated to them. The great thing about network marketing is that you get to CHOOSE who you go into business with. That includes the company and your sponsor. You MUST research both. I have seen many people be sponsored by people that had no interest in helping them. I have seen others take an interest. I have seen people sign up with any and every company that comes along, not caring about a long term match. And that is the point isn't it? A long term match? We build our businesses with the intention of creating a permanent residual income. Can we really do that if we don't really like the company much or the products or our sponsor? Not likely. Now on the other hand, let's look at it from the sponsor's point of view... Do you REALLY desire to sign up EVERYONE you contact? If you do, I suggest you think long and hard on the following. It works both ways in being choosy. If you get to be choosy about who you sign up with, you get to do the same about those you bring in. You should bring in people that have compatible skills, personalities and desires. This is a form of LEADERSHIP. You cannot help someone in a way that you would not work. So, if you have a prospect that is looking to join his 7th active company and sign up as many as possible for quick cash before moving on, is this compatible with your way of working? Probably not if you are reading this. At least I hope not. If you are focusing on building a lot of leaders and bringing in business builders, does this mean that you shouldn't bring in someone who is more focused on retailing and a slower way of building? Of course not... Goals don't have to be the same. Methods don't have to be the same. Sponsors and recruits do not and should not be clones of each other. Variety is the spice of life as they say. My point is to find people on both sides (sponsor or recruit) that can bring something to the table. That means being choosy. It means getting to know the other person and the company. It means that some people are going to be right for you and the business. Others are not. Some may be right for the business but not you. That may hurt, but in the long run it's better to pass on that relationship and just seek out another. My basic point here is to stop just accepting anyone as a business associate and/or partner. Be choosy. Find a fit. The fit won't always mean you join or recruit someone just like you. That probably rarely happens anyway. People are different and seek different things. Just make sure that what you seek and what the other person seeks is at least compatible and not at odds. Your business will be the better for it and so will theirs... whether you get involved with them or not. Have an outstanding week! Tim
