Publisher's Note 1.) Publisher's Note Well, here we are again after another long delay in publishing. You know the problem with being your own boss? You can't fire the help when they don't get the job done! :) Seriously, so many things are going on here at the Success Maniacs Group and in our individual lives that we just let some things drop. Which brought me to examine some things that I, and we, do in life. This week's Power Thought is about how we misuse our time and over commit. The main article is about the 10 Keys to Success. I wrote these down as I examined committing to projects, ideas and goals and also while listening to some great tapes by Big Al and in interview with a colleague, Tom Wood (for info on Tom, go to: http://www.TheDuplicator.com). It seemed that time commitment, thoughts (which really are THINGS as you will find out from Bill Pike in this week's Recommended Resource), beliefs and the rules we choose to live by (yes, we CHOOSE our life's rules) are all intertwined. Unfortunately, the entire thing turned out to be WAAAAAAY more than a single issue of SuccessMania! could contain. So I thought about breaking it into 2 pieces. Then I realized that I had WAAAAAAY more than that. Well, what about a piece per week? Hmmmmn.... 10 weeks to do these? Seemed to long to make anyone wait to be able to read it. So what does that leave us with? For now a preview... You will get a sample of what is Key #1. That lays the foundation for all the others. After that... Well, I believe we will see a tape set out of it and an eBook companion to go with it. In the meantime read the Preview and please tell me what you think! Power Thought - Where does the time go? It's a simple thing really... Time passes at the same rate for each of us. Yet some people (like me) often find that time runs out on tasks to be done. Sometimes it's because we don't plan well. Or we don't execute well. Or unforeseen obstacles come up. Whatever the reason, often we just can't, don't or won't be able to finish projects we are working on. I know that I tend to take on more than I can reasonably handle. Not getting things done can be divided into two categories... Things we thought we could finish and things we fooled ourselves into thinking we could finish. I don't have a problem with the first category. Fixing that just requires a little discipline. The second category is the one we all have to be careful about. Everyone does this at some point in life. Hopefully we don't do it all the time or even a lot. But when we do this, it is imperative that we recognize it and make adjustments. If you commit to finishing a big project for instance, and you know that you are already over-committed... DON'T DO IT! If you take on projects solely because they sound like fun without checking to see if you can handle it... DON'T DO IT! One of the best ways to commit self-sabotage is to take on too much. It keeps us busy, yet at the same time, it keeps us spinning our wheels too, because we won't be able to finish all the projects and/or be able to do them all well. And that gets us deeper into a cycle of frustration. When we that happens, many of us try to take on MORE. Why is that? Because we have been told repeatedly that we must ACT! Your mother told you to go out and DO SOMETHING when you were depressed. Our mentors and uplines tell us to take massive ACTION to get results. Well, I say no more. Let's stop taking MASSIVE ACTION just to take MASSIVE ACTION. Instead, let's do what Doug Firebaugh teaches... Be effective rather than efficient. Efficient is calling 1000 people this week out of the phone book. Effective is talking to 20 interested people this month, one a day, Monday - Friday, 4 weeks a month. Now to circle back to the beginning... At the end of the month when you ask, 'Where does the time go?' you will be able to say it went effectively toward achieving my goals. Where does YOUR time go? Fric. 3.) Recommended Resource - PikeFire Success Trilogy I have to say that I have been blown away by this series of tape sets by Bill Pike. Bill happens to be one of the people I consider an unofficial mentor. He speaks, writes and records and I soak it up. Bill has a great, down-home quality to him that leaves you a little off guard for the virtual two-by-four he whacks you in the head with when he makes his points. Bill is the #1 earner in his current company and the #1 in a previous company. He has spent pretty much his entire life teaching motivation whether in his sales job, as owner of a company or as an upline and mentor. Bill's message is simple, to the point and powerful. Article by Fric - 10 Keys to Success Preview From those I have observed in life and in network marketing in particular, these 10 Keys seem to be pretty darned important for the people who have achieved massive success. All my roadblocks, stumbles and detours in my life seem to have come from NOT paying attention to these 10 Keys. I came to these 10 Keys recently while doing some introspection on what I do poorly and how to fix them. I was looking at things that require repair now and things that I should have repaired in the past. Instead of dwelling on fixing the symptoms, I started looking at ways to prevent these issues. What principles could I have followed and be following now to make sure I stay on track and headed in the right direction? Fric's 10 Keys to Success 1. Believe You Can Achieve I list this first, simply because it HAS to be first. If you do not believe that you can do something, that you can be something or that you can have something, what kind of chances do you have of success? Zilch. Nada. None. ZERO. Even if you just aren't sure, you will have almost no chance of success simply because doubting something can happen is almost the same as KNOWING something can't happen. And I am talking about things in your personal life... Things that you can actually affect, not who wins the Stanley Cup for instance. (Though, being a Michigan born guy, I KNEW the Red Wings would win. :) But I digress...) If you know you can't do something or even just don't know, you don't put forth the same effort. Think of a time when you just KNEW you were going to achieve something. A certain job... getting into a particular school, making the team, getting the love of your life to say 'YES!' or getting to say 'YES!' to the love of your life... Think about it. How did you act? What did you do? Now think about something that you doubted you could do... What were the predominant thoughts in your head? Did you have butterflies in your stomach? Were you sweating it out? Did you get jittery, irritable, scared, nervous, sick, etc.? And how did you perform in each situation? Did you succeed when you KNEW you could do it? Probably, though not always. Did you fail when you had DOUBTS? Almost certainly you did, though not always. Though KNOWING and DOUBTING do not guarantee Success or Failure respectively, they influence the outcome, because they change the way YOU behave in pursuit of the goal. When you are sure... When you KNOW... When there is not even another possible outcome, you do not hesitate. You act quickly, with surety and definiteness of purpose. You are focused and resolute. Nothing will get in your way, mainly because you ignore or have already mentally overcome any bumps you might encounter BEFORE YOU STARTED. When you aren't sure, you simply will not and cannot commit totally to the end result. We hold back. No matter how much you say you never hold back, even when you aren't sure, I don't believe it. It's simply human nature. Let's examine something that would seem to prove me wrong... On September 11 hundreds of NY Firefighters rushed into the two World Trade Center Towers and never came out alive. I have seen many articles and interviews with surviving firefighters that say they KNEW they weren't likely to get out alive. Yet still they went. Aha, Fric! See, they knew and they were right. Did their knowing hurt their chances? No. Of course not. Partially because that isn't the point. These brave men went into those buildings KNOWING that it is their duty to give their all to help others. They didn't doubt that job. And did they help others? Absolutely. We may never know how many were saved because those men KNEW it was their responsibility to help others no matter the cost. Their primary goal wasn't to get out alive... It was to get OTHERS out alive, and God bless them... they did. Their KNOWING their duty and their job is what enabled them to help others in the face of certain death. If they had doubted that, they would never have gone in. Or they would never have made the efforts they did. They would have done things differently. THAT is my point... You act differently when you KNOW your outcome as opposed to WISHING for your outcome. You have to BELIEVE you will ACHIEVE. Even if you have to pretend to BELIEVE, it will make you act in stronger and better ways and that can make all the difference in the world. ==== End of Preview ==== OK... There you have it.
