Publisher's Note - 08/25/2002 1.) Publisher's Note - 08/25/02 It's that time of year... School's back in (last Monday for us! Where did the Summer go?!)... Weather should start cooling a bit... College football and the NFL seasons are here... Baseball is about to strike again... See the Power Thought for Fric's thoughts on THAT one! The Fiery One (Doug Firebaugh) just finished up the Slaying Your Giants Weekend event in Dallas, and it was a smashing success by all accounts. This was an event geared to teaching and using Christian principles in your business. There are more planned for the coming year. I highly recommend you attend one if you can. And if you can't, why not? We are putting together the promised new trainings and auto-responders right now. I think some of these are really going to open your eyes on how simple this business can be. Look for stuff to start showing up this week. We should have new trainings posted every Wednesday morning. 2.) Power Thought - Sick of the Whiners and Complainers It looks like the baseball players are getting ready to strike again. Owners can't stop spending and players can't stop taking the money. What is up with that anyway? I don't know about you, but I really get sick of hearing about people complaining about making an average of $2 million a year. I get sick of hearing about owners saying they can't control themselves and need a salary cap. It's a darned GAME that most men and boys (and many girls too) would kill to play every day for 6 months a year. I am certainly not jealous of the players and the money they make. After all, if the market offers A-Rod $25 million a year, he should turn it down?! Though I read today that he has offered to take a pay cut if it would help baseball. Bravo to him. Will the other players do the same? Will the owners? Doubtful... The thing that annoys me the most about the whole situation is that each side seems to be represented by a bunch of whiners and complainers. Baseball is the only profession where being a whiner and complainer seems to count as a positive. Players whine and complain about getting more respect and fair pay, playing conditions, etc. So, they get ever larger and larger guaranteed contracts which are then promptly not earned by having falloffs in production it seems. Can you imagine doing that in your J.O.B.? Or with your networking company? Excuse me, boss? I need a guaranteed 5 year, $50 million contract based on the last 6 months performance I have given you. I know it's one set of 6 months that do not look anything like the other 30 months I have been here, but I promise to keep it up if you will only give me this contract. Suuuuuurrrrre...... That sounds right. Now think about being the owner of a company... I just built all these new facilities that sure are fancy! See all the luxury boxes for people that don't care about what we really do? Aren't they nifty? Never mind that we are $300 million in debt because of it. Never mind that we can't groom good young talent and train them because we don't have the resources. Who needs training?! We'll just buy what we need. Let's give Johnny Wonder over there $15 million a year for 7 years. So what if he is on the decline? Look what he did before! He was amazing. As a matter of fact, let's just lure the "big hitters" from other companies and throw money at them! What? The little guys working their tails off at the bottom of the system aren't developing (producing) because we aren't teaching them well? So? More will come along later.... What? We can't borrow any more money to stay afloat? The same companies keep growing (winning) each year? The little ones (small market) can't compete? WE NEED SOCIALISM TO LEVEL THE PLAYING FIELD!!!!! We need an earnings cap for all distributors and employees to keep us from being irresponsible! We need the rich companies to send money to the poor companies! Not much of a way to run an MLM or ANY business is it? I know I have over simplified things here. And stretched the truth a bit, but I think the essentials are correct. My point here is that baseball is no longer, and hasn't been in a long time, much of a role model for people. Players and owners don't seem to care about the fans who pay salaries and buy luxury boxes. Many player ignore the rules or bend them. Owners attempt to buy championships and players. No one recognizes that the sport is interdependent. No one team can complete without the others. Also, notice that the players and owners that are the most successful, tend NOT to be the whiners and complainers. Those that quietly go about building skills, a REAL team and using what they have at hand are successful. Look at Minnesota, Oakland and Seattle. These are 3 teams that do not have the resources of New York or Atlanta. But they have put together winning teams that will be in the post season. They are "small market" teams with lower payrolls. Instead of focusing on the problems, they have focused on maximizing what they have and augmenting it as necessary. No whiners and complainers there... Do you focus on maximizing what you have and augmenting when necessary.....? Or are you a whiner and complainer.....? Just something to think about. Fric. 3.) Recommended Resource - Your RoadMap For Success Workbook by John Maxwell Your Road Map For Success Workbook is written by John Maxwell and let me say that you can not find a better author than Maxwell to teach Leadership principles. I have been floored by his material since the first time I listened to him. This book is actually a workbook for a normal hardcover. I bought the workbook because I was impatient. I wanted to get right to the meat and exercises in the workbook. And that is exactly what you will find. Exercises... questions... probing questions and ideas that will make you stop and reassess how you approach success. My favorite question was "What are you waiting on to become successful?" Whoa!!!!!!!!!!!! Take some time to think about that. Seriously.... If you could pick one thing that you are waiting to happen so that you can be successful or even get started on being successful, what would that be? I'll give you a hint here... I'd bet money it's an EXTERNAL thing. It's something you probably don't and can't control. Thereby giving you a great excuse. A related question, though not from this book, is "What is your favorite excuse?" Hurts, doesn't it? This book is full of questions and exercises that walk you through the process of defining success and how to create a plan to get there. It is one of the best tools in that regards and one everyone should read and DO!. Your Road Map For Success Workbook 4.) Article - 20th Year High School Reunion Besides
seeing old friends and revisiting the past I wasnt exactly sure
what to expect. What I observed was awesome for the networker in todays
mlm. Almost every conversation included promoting or recommending something.
Including but not limited to: baby sitters, beer brands, wine brands,
cities, countries, states, appraisers, retail shops, foods, soft drinks,
autos, jokes, ideologies, sport teams, sports, little leagues, Now why is this good for us mlmers? Because since the age of 4 thats all we have been doing. People network everyday, however, most just do not get paid for it! Yes, every time you promote or recommend something you are networking. It doesnt matter if you are being paid for it. In fact some of the people out there hate mlm, but they themselves are networkers (just not being paid). Lets not tell them it might make them look foolish (smile). Now that 100% of my high school friends are networking they can either start picking up a check or continue to do it for free. This also applies to us mlmers. We can quit receiving a paycheck (quit our prospective company), but cant quit networking. With this knowledge about networking would it reduce your objections? Can you here one of your friends just say, I cant sell (you already network) or is that illegal (yes stupid, thats why your going to jail. Youve been doing something illegal all your life!). It cancels every objection. Do you think you would have less people fall into the black hole (the people that tell you they are going to sign up and never do)? Who can talk them out of networking when they have been doing it for 20 + years. The person that tries to talk them out of networking is going to look foolish (what are they going to say, I think you should not start picking up a paycheck and do it for free). Earl Nightingale once stated, If you want a fulfilling life, just find out what you love doingand then make a decision to dedicate the rest of your life doing that. Besides myself, who loves networking? Okay, we all do. Now we just have to make our business profitable so we can do the thing that we love to do (NETWORKING) full time. Lets all make a promise to ourselves to take one step everyday in the direction of becoming full time in mlm.
