1.) Publisher's Note - 09/23/02

The anniversary has come and gone... It's been a year since "that" day. Since that time, the country has gone through many downs and ups. The perpetrators were entirely right about one thing... and entirely wrong about another, more important thing.

They were right that September 11, 2001 would be a devastating wake-up call... We realized that massive oceans, the most powerful armed forces and nuclear deterrents were not enough to keep us safe after all.

They were wrong about the most important thing however. It didn't devastate our will to win or our will to keep it from happening again.

Though I don't think the entire United States is as determined nor as offended by those events, the majority certainly is. When you poke us in the eye, we may bleed, but we will also see to it that you don't poke many more eyes...

What is that about the American spirit that makes us world defenders and fighters for justice? I don't care that some call us greedy and imperialistic... Oppressors of the world's poor and rapers of the planet... Most know that the US and what it stands for is FREEDOM. Religious, economic and political.

Inherent in that freedom is a responsibility. We have a responsibility to use those freedoms in a way that betters us and those around us.

For some, that responsibility means taking from one group and transferring it to another group.

For Fric and Frac, it means helping other hone their skills and abilities to be and do the best they can. Our desires are to help create as many success stories as we can.

THAT is the American Spirit that the terrorists do not understand. Heck, most of America doesn't even get that. But that spirit is what keeps us rebounding after any and all disasters and attacks.

Getting off the soap box now and returning you to our regularly scheduled program.... :)

2.) Power Thought - Do You Resist Authority?

This is a question I have been pondering a lot lately because of my religious conversion this past year. While this isn't the forum for those details, I do want to relate how I have been dealing with this question as it relates to my business activities...

And don't worry... I don't get theological here.

If you are in a business relationship, or any relationship really, there is a give and take and generally a ordinate/subordinate factor. Sometimes this is an employer/employee relationship. Sometimes it is a owner/customer relationship. Sometimes it's a company/distributor.

One thing that I believe wholeheartedly is a quote from Zig Ziglar:

"You can get everything you want in life, by helping other people get what they want."

That is one of the core values that is at the heart of network marketing. By creating successful people in our downlines, we are creating greater success for ourselves. Doing this is a form of submitting ourselves to authority.

Think about it this way... When you sign up with a company, you agree to follow the company's rules regarding sales, products and marketing. You have total freedom on how to work your business within those boundaries.

When you sign up new business partners, you are (at least tacitly) agreeing to help them achieve their goals, not them helping to achieve your goals.

When we help others, we set aside our goals in favor of the goals of others...

That is what submitting to someone else's authority is all about. The ironic thing is that, as Americans, we are naturally resistant to authority. Look at history. From the Revolution to the Civil War to the 1960s radicalism, our history is full of examples of people resisting authority.

Do you rail against your company's rules, products, pay plan, etc.? If so, you are resisting an authority that you willingly submitted to.

Do you argue with your spouse? Your children? Business partners? Again, you are resisting a form of authority that you willingly submitted to.

Not all authority is explicit nor does it have explicit punishments for resistance.

But there are punishments, aren't there?

You end up with bad relationships in cases where you have willingly submitted. You may damage your marriage. You may move from company to company... friendship to friendship... job to job... or even church to church.

But what happens if you embrace authority as defined here?

Whoa! Now that is an interesting concept, isn't it?

It would mean we are talking about putting others before our own self. We would stop being self-centered. We would learn how to enrich ourselves spiritually, emotionally and financially by helping others to do the same... Just like Zig said.

So, do you resist authority or embrace it?

4.) Article - Patience is a Virtue

Have you ever had someone join you in your MLM, your job, your volunteer organization who couldn't understand why things were not getting done, weren't changing or why their checks weren't growing by leaps and bounds after the first 15 days?

We all have. It's not an MLM-specific problem either. Society has changed much in respect to expectations. Prior to the 1960s (give or take a little), the predominant attitude seemed to be, wait and it will come.

Then came the "I want it now or as soon as possible anyway" attitude...

Now we seem to be living in the "Why wasn't it there before I got started?" attitude.

The Internet and television have a lot to do with this I believe. Both have accelerated the concept of instant gratification to an unbelievable level. You can get 500 channels or more on your satellite dish. There are millions of web pages a click away.

All are almost instantaneously arrived at literally by the touch of a button. We don't have to wait and we don't want to. Studies have shown that you have something like 15 seconds or less to get someone interested enough in your website to stay before they click on to the next page. People decide whether or not to flip to the next channel in less time than that quite often.

So how do you combat this in your business?

Patience of course!

Unfortunately, patience has not yet been bottled. If it were, I would a rep in THAT company in a heartbeat!

To help develop patience in yourself and your group, I believe you have to help manage their expectations. Impatience is pretty much just frustration. Frustration results from not getting the results you desired when you desired them.

So get people and yourself to understand that the results are not automatic. They are not guaranteed, nor are they always explicit. Rewards sometimes come later. A long time later...

Realize that what you do today may not generate a check tomorrow...

But it might generate a check in six months.

It might never generate a check.

But it almost certainly will if you can learn from what you do each day and make the next day's efforts a little better.

Patience is realizing that what you want now, may not be available, possible or realistic at this point in time.

Is it realistic to start at Microsoft today and expect to be the new President next month? No, of course not.

But all too often we or people in our downlines expect to be at the top of the pay plan in 30 days or less. We take a short term view into the business and we get less than short term results. We usually get squat. Maybe a flash in the pan at first, but little later.

Talk to people around you and in your upline to learn more what realistic results come from certain activities. You may be able to hit better results sooner or maybe you hit them later than average.

But you know what kind of time frame is more realistic. I suggest you shoot higher than what is realistic. You should always set outrageous goals.... but not stupid goals. If you never recruited anyone before, don't set the goal to recruit 10 this month....

Not unless you are willing to learn and put in the effort that is required to hit 10 new signups. And before that you better be willing to learn what you need to do and learn to do that.

Patience is simply having the foresight to plan ahead and not getting too far ahead of yourself without being able to back it up...

Patience is working a plan consistently...

Patience is asking for help from people more successful than you...

Patience is being able to learn and grow while you build your business...

Patience is not getting discouraged when setbacks occur.

Patience is following one aim until it's achieved.

Patience is a virtue... and it is a curse.

Virtue because things come to those who wait, plan and execute consistently.

Virtue is a curse because it is all too easy to give in to despair and defeat along the way.

So, I ask are you virtuous? Or are you cursed?

Thanks and have an OUTSTANDING day!
