1.) Publisher's Note - 12/30/2002 Greetings Success Maniacs! Been a quick year this year, it seems. We are 2 days away from entering the fourth year of the 2000's. (But only the 3rd of the new millennium and new century... Weird.) Last time, we presented some guidelines for setting goals and knowing where you are going. I hope everyone is ready with their plan for 2003. I still have a few finishing touches to put on mine. This coming year will be very exciting for us at SuccessManiacs.com. We have already done a minor update to the website. It looks pretty similar to this ezine as a matter of fact. What a coincidence! :) Also, we have finally updated the ezine archives. Every ezine we have published in the last two years is on the site now through the last issue. From now on, you will see the previous issue posted to the website at the same time the new one is emailed. Click here to go there and read any ezines you missed. We are planning some new products and working on some new tools for you on the website. Maybe even some online classes. We are looking to increase our presence this coming year. With that in mind, we'd like to hear from you on what you would like to see us do next year. What topics would you like to see covered? Is there something you are missing from your current training? What's the thing you lack most or would most like to know? Let us know and we will see if we can put something together to cover your requests. If we don't have the knowledge or experience to answer it (we certainly don't know everything here), we will find someone who does. Send your ideas and requests to Fric@SuccessManiacs.com. 2.) Power Thought - Prevail or Ignore? It's the next to last day of the year 2002. As I look back over the year, I see a lot of changes, both in my life and our country's. (If you are reading this from outside the US, you probably see a lot of changes in your country and the world too.) Personally, I have seen a faith conversion, renewal of marriage vows, new sources of income, stumbles along the way, a deeper relationship with God, changes in how I view myself, changes in how I view my role in life, changes in what I see myself focusing on. For our country, we have returned somewhat to a sense of normalcy after the horrific events on September 2001. Sure, there's an awareness that there's more to come most likely; but we don't dwell on it daily it seems. We have gone through some bitter political fights this year before, during and after the election. Some political figures have been hurt by what they say (Trent Lott) while others are ignored (Robert Byrd and Patty Murray). The President still rides pretty high approval ratings through all of it. There's been scandal in the business world and in the world of faith. So what does this have to do with SuccessMania! you ask? Well... I think what it displays is this. Change happens all around us and in us all the time. Most of the time it's subtle and takes time. Other times it's lightening quick and we fight to stand, much less cope. Sometimes we just fight to deal with the effects and get by. But, we do. I am not sure if it's a strength or a weakness sometimes, but as a country we seem incredibly able to get past problems. It's an obvious strength when we fight through the problems and prevail over them. It can be a weakness though when we ignore our obstacles and don't do anything about them. I know I have done that before. We all have, because sometimes the reality is too painful to confront. That is when we get into trouble as a nation or personally. One of the reasons this ezine and our website exists is to help you be the kind of person that prevails. As you encounter obstacles in 2003, will you prevail or will you ignore? Tim

Recommended Resource - Motivated Mike Mike Lemire, founder of MLMDevelopment.com (also a way cool site!) is offering one-on-one custom training for a limited number of people right now. Mike is one of the top earners with his company and certainly one of the best trainers out there. Check it out here! 4.) Article - The Difference Between Success and Failure One of age-old questions in life is "What separates those who succeed from those who fail?" Almost any motivational or training book, tape or speaker will touch on this question. Often the answer is attitude. Your attitude determines your altitude and all that. Sometimes it's taking action. Sometimes it's faith. Sometimes it's luck (but I don't listen to those guys. :) That's partially true, but it's not ALL of it. There are many factors that differentiate the successful from the failures in life. However, I would guess that for almost anything you can name as THE factor, I could find two or more people that were identical in that factor and got different results. So, is there one thing that is a difference? I think so and I have written about it before here. I think it's appropriate to talk about it again right now, because so many people think to themselves, "THIS year will be different." But it never is. Why? It's not talent, education, luck, attitude, faith or where you start. It's the difference between CAN and WILL. People who only CAN succeed, don't. People who WILL succeed, do. <Huh? What the heck is Fric talking about now?> OK. OK. Let me explain. Since you see people starting from the gutter achieving wild and massive success and people starting in mansions achieving the gutter, I put forth that ANYONE can achieve success (or failure) in life. Especially in the United States, despite what some think. If anyone CAN achieve success, why don't most of them? The magic question! Anyone CAN achieve success, but the question is WILL they? <Again, huh? Isn't that what you are supposed to tell us, Fric?> That IS the question... WILL they? Do they have the will to do what it takes? The inner strength? The grace to endure hardships without giving up? This WILL to do it is not quite the same as attitude and all those other things. They are part of what makes up the WILL here. I am not talking about your personal will. Your personal will is just deciding to do something. We do that all the time. I decided to write this article this morning. That was me exercising my will. The WILL I am speaking of is about making some destination your life's purpose. It's about submitting to that destination and it's authority. You have to live for that destination and love it. <But Fric, that sounds pretty bad! What about my family? God? Things that are important to me now?> Excellent question! And the next point I was getting to. It's true that submitting to certain destinations have the possibility of destroying your personal life in so many ways. Look at professional athletes who get a lot of money for the first time in their lives. Many of them succumb to drugs, sex and an out of control lifestyle. Why? Because the destination they submitted themselves too was Success at ALL Costs. And when you do that, success does cost you all you have in many cases. That is why the goal setting guidelines from last time are so important. We laid out a method for you to determine your values, roles and other foundations of your life. Then we designed a destination and goals that did NOT violate those values, etc. When you do that, you can submit yourself to that destination with all your mind, body and heart because it is a balanced and good destination. By submitting yourself, you are opening up the freedom to act to get there. It's a paradox, but a true one. Submission here leads to freedom. That is actually true in a lot of areas in life. Marriage, your faith, relationships, just about everything. You open yourself to the possibilities and probability of success in these areas. You work toward that destination and ONLY that destination. I know this is a bit existential and can be confusing. But the key thing to remember here is this: Anybody CAN do something, but WILL they? And by that I mean WILL they totally submit to their destination (once defined as outlined last time)? And is it a balanced one? Does it include all areas of your life? Friends, family, faith, work, hobbies/fun stuff, etc. etc.? So CAN you succeed or WILL you succeed? Thanks and have an OUTSTANDING day! Tim
