1.) Publisher's Note - 01/13/2003 Greetings Success Maniacs! We begin the third year of publication of this ezine today! Way back in the beginning it was just Fric (before he even became Fric!)... Now we've got Frac, the Firey One, a real website and all kinds of support and kind thoughts each time from our readers. That is way cool, too... It gives us a great thrill when someone sends in a note saying thanks or complimenting an article. That really juices you up for the day! Sometimes we don't take the time to tell each other "Good job!" at work and at home... Just a thought. Personally, I am going to work on that. I encourage you to do that too. It works both ways. You encourage someone and it is infectious. The coming year holds a lot of promise for us at SuccessManiacs.com. We have big plans that are starting to come together finally. We are planning to introduce a new product in each of the first 3 months of the year. They will be ready by the end of each month. The first is one that Frac and I have been taking notes on and researching for a while called... "Prospecting on a Budget". February should see the release of an eBook/tapeset combo called the "11 Keys to Success". March's product is something we are still working out the focus and nature of. As soon as we have them ready to go, we'll let you know! Sometime in the second half of the year, Fric and Frac will also host our first-ever SuccessMania! LIVE event! Look for more details in the coming months! And of course we are still working on that new Faith-oriented project as well. That should see daylight in the second quarter. It's going to be an awesome year! Fric. 2.) Power Thought - Started Your Goals Yet? It's the New Year and we are already two weeks into it! So, how are you coming with your goals this year? <WHOA! Man Fric, you gotta give us some time here... It's only the 13th!> Yep, it is. Time's a' wastin'! Seriously, if you have started your goals, CONGRATULATIONS! If you haven't even set them yet... WHY NOT? I cannot stress enough how important it is to begin the year by setting your goals and beginning to work on them. I think we all tend to think of the beginning of the year as the best time and ONLY time to do this. It's a mental block and of course it's totally false. Intellectually we know we can set and begin our goals any time. But we are conditioned it seems to only do it at this time of the year. Can't start something in the middle, can we? Skip the movie if it's too far into it... Forget the party, we've missed half of it already... We're late for church, so let's forget it today... (people really do this) It's all hogwash... Baloney... Bovine excrement... You can do it any time... And there's no time like the present, is there? Tim
"Fric" Johnson 3.) Recommended Resource - Long Distance Sponsoring Training If you haven't been to MLMDevelopment.com in a while, go now! They have put a facelift to the site that is really cool! Also, right now you can get a great deal on their latest product: Long Distance Sponsoring Training Course. This course has been put together by Mike Lemire and Mike Dorsey, both great trainers. The course is a series of 8 audio trainings that cover the following:
This incredible training series will sell for $49.95 beginning February 1st when it ships. But you can order it now for only $39.95! That's a 20% discount on a great program. I highly recommend it. Don't miss out on this one! 4.) Article - When Does It Become Narcicism? The best description I have ever heard of network marketing is this: "Network marketing is nothing more than a personal development program with a pay plan." "WOW!" I thought... That's pretty cool. And so very true! Now I wonder... My focus and understanding of life, success and personal development has begun to shift... When I look at society, I see something very disturbing. All around us, the message is this: "YOU are the most important thing in the world and YOUR wants and desires are the highest good." It's not always that obvious. It can be subtle. It can be quiet. It can be loud and it can be obnoxious. But it seems to almost always be there. Commercials on TV and radio (and the Internet too) tell us that if we just get that one thing, life is so much easier and happier! We are also show massive amounts of "entertainment" that glorifies an anything-goes lifestyle. We see that the ultimate authority on what is good is our own feelings. We are told that all ideas, values and goals are worthy and equal (unless they are politically incorrect that is). <Hey, Fric... You're going off the reservation again! What does this have to do with us?> Well, it's like this... If you are reading this ezine, you are likely already on some kind of personal development program, regimen or track. That is great! I applaud you. Truly. But I started seeing things as part of a much larger whole in the last year. I started looking at what was out there as personal development, tools and message. It seemed that the farther back you go in the history of personal development, the more service-oriented it is. The Grand Masters of PMA (Hill, Stone, Ziglar, Rohn, Mandino, Carnegie, etc.) all taught (teach in some cases still) messages that were about becoming the ultimate you by helping others become their own ultimate you. You grew by helping others grow. As I looked at the more recent trainers and experts (I won't name names), it seemed that the original focus was lost. It became all about what you could get from being better. The question is how far do you go before it is just narcissism, the glorification of self? The greatest among us come as servants. They make others better. Look at team sports... Those who were and are CHAMPIONS are never the ONLY go-to player on the team. Champions always seem to have a 1-2 combination. Many even have several 1-2 combinations. Those are the hallmarks of not just a single-year champion, but of a dominating team. They sacrifice for the good of the team. Michael Jordan is possibly the single greatest basketball player to have played. But he never won a ring until Scottie Pippen came along and the rest of the TEAM. Jordan learned to play with others for a common goal. Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Isaiah Thomas were all great players in the 1980's and even into the 1990's. Each one of them could take over a game when needed. Yet each one of them was more important for what they did to their teammates. These guys made their teammates better. They brought everyone's level of play up. And they all won multiple championships in the 1980s. As a matter of fact, with 1 exception, their 3 teams won every NBA championship from 1980 to 1990. 10 of 11 years saw the Lakers, Celtics and Pistons dominate the post season and win the Finals. Now think about your own personal development library. How many tools, books and audios do you have that are geared toward building up JUST YOU? Sure, we all need to have tools that develop the fundamentals in us. We require that strong foundation to build upon. But after you take out the basics that teach that, if you even have any, what's left? It seems that we are being taught to exalt self over others. So many tapes and books on my shelf are totally about what I can get out of life and nothing else. I used to think that was great. I loved those tapes and books. Now I see that those messages are incomplete in many ways. Many times these books and tapes will give some kind of lip service to the idea of serving others or doing something for a "higher" cause. But do they really? I don't think so... My point here is that we can subtly shift from developing ourselves for our good and the good of those around us and into a narcissism that is disguised by happy thoughts, positive attitudes and the trappings of achievement that society tells us is the ultimate good. But when you are in that mode, it's you that is the ultimate good. Your wants, desires, dreams and goals are all that matter. I believe that is not only wrong, it is dangerous. It leads to an empty future without a real purpose. A recent former First Lady marveled in mid-40s that there are "things greater than ourselves" as if it were a recent discovery for her. Most of us already knew this. But we tend to lose sight of it. So when you are working on yourself, and you do need to, examine the direction and purpose of it. Don't get me wrong here. A person poor in spirit, attitude, ability and means can never help anyone, except to become just like them. A person rich in spirit, attitude, ability and means has so much more to offer others. I urge all of you to reexamine how you work on yourselves. If you are working on you for the sake of you, please take the time to see how you can take what you have learned, what you are doing or what you have planned and turn it into something that can benefit you and others. Thanks and have an OUTSTANDING day! Tim
